You may not know French author Stéphane Marie, who hosts a weekly TV show “Silence, ça pousse!” that focuses on the art of gardening. But if you’re even thinking about a trip to France, you’ll definitely want to consult his latest book, A Garden Tour of France (Flammarion, 2026). Marie profiles 27 gardens across 10 regions of the country, many of which will be entirely new to American garden enthusiasts. Each entry includes a history and description of the garden, stunning photographs, and best of all, the garden’s address, website,
telephone, and opening hours. You’ll discover formal gardens (Chǎteau de Villandry in the Loire Valley), the topiary garden (Jardins du Manoir d’Eyrignac in Nouvelle Aquitaine) that offers Monday “white picnics” in July and August, the aquatic nursery (Jardins Aquatiques d’Acorus) in Burgundy and Franche Comté, and many more. The book is a little hefty to take along on a visit, but you’ll find in invaluable in planning a trip to visit some of the most extraordinary gardens in France.
