Rooted: Origins of American Gardening
This year’s theme marks the last of the PHS’ trilogy of shows that lead up to the 200th anniversary of the Flower Show in 2027.
United by Flowers in 2024 recognized the community and connections that grow through shared gardening experiences. In 2025, Gardens of Tomorrow, of course, looked forward to what we might expect in future plants and garden design. This year, Rooted: Origins of American Gardening celebrates the past traditions, stories, and cultures that have brought our gardens to the place they occupy today.
Seth Pearsoll, VP and Creative Director of the Flower Show, said “This year’s Flower Show feels especially personal because every plant or garden carries a story behind it.” He added that the show is about sharing memories and diverse experiences and “the ways they connect us. It will be a show filled with memory, meaning, and incredible creativity.”
Visitors will enter (see photo above) on a “Forest Floor” that draws on global influences — a Japanese Zen Garden and a Scottish forest, with a twisting root structure over the entire landscape. Another main feature is a special exhibit honoring the country’s 250th anniversary — four gardens installed by some of the USA’s top landscape designers that showcase the origins, traditions, and resilience of American gardens.
And that’s not all. An exhibit featuring four international florists explores the moments that caused each to develop a passion for flowers. The world’s largest plant competition features thousands of plants grown by amateurs and horticultural experts. Visitors can also partake of a lecture series, advice from experts, early morning tours, a butterfly exhibit, Kids’ Corner, and much more. Don’t miss this year’s show.
