The Peace Rose was bred in France by Meilland International in 1942, and it has long been associated with the end of World War II. It was named the day that Berlin fell to the Allies and won honors from All American Rose Selections in 1946 on the day that the peace treaty was signed with Japan.

That same day, members of the United Nations were presented with its blooms.

‘Peace’ is a hybrid tea about four to six feet high, three feet high, with 5-6 inch pale golden flowers edged in pink. The colors deepen and spread over time, and the strong, straight stems support the blooms and make it ideal for cut flower displays. It has glossy dark green leaves and a fruity, strong fragrance and it also is a repeat bloomer. Cold tolerant to USDA Zone 6, but it requires winter protection if the wind chill factor drops below 20 degrees F. Ideal for landscapes, beds, and cut flowers. Available from Jackson & Perkins.
